International Conference
QUEER KINSHIP
Affects, Families, Bonds
April 9-10, 2024
University for Foreigners of Siena
THE CONFERENCE
"Queer Kinship: Affects, Families, Bonds" explores transformative shifts in family dynamics, examining the impact of recent legal changes and cultural representations on diverse affective bonds. Beyond traditional norms, the conference acknowledges the longstanding existence of queer kinship in all its forms. Despite increased visibility, cultural acceptance varies, resulting in intersectional discrimination. This international conference, the first of a three-part series in 2024-2025 across Siena (Italy), Birmingham (UK), and Toronto (CA), aims to bridge gaps in understanding emerging cultural discourses surrounding queer families. By fostering critical debate and interdisciplinary networks, the event seeks to develop a deeper awareness of diverse family experiences within a plural, multicultural, and inclusive framework. The broader research project intends to identify trends, create new methodologies, and explore the transcultural and transnational circulation of discourses on affective bonds and queer families.
